Hyperhidrosis at The Skin Centre.
The first treatment is a 20% topical
Aluminium hexahydrate.
Secondly Iontophoresis is helpful in those
patients prepared to put the effort into regular sessions with the
Iontophoresis units on the affected areas. A number of options exist for
this troublesome problem. For the axilla, surgery is an option either to the
local sweat glands or to the nerves that supply them.
For people who do not want surgery and have not
found topical applications helpful injections of bacterial toxin could be an option. Many find that only one
lot of injections into the skin of the
axilla per year is necessary to keep things under control as during winter
covering clothing is worn.
Surgery with a selective laparoscopic sympathectomy is the last option
particularly for the hands. This procedure involves deflating a lung and is
therefore not a minor procedure. Unfortunately the risk for random compensatory
regions of hyperhidrosis on the trunk after such a procedure is in the order of
20%.
