Diamond Abrasion at The Skin Centre.
This procedure is an abrasion
technique that removes the outer dead layer of skin. The
mechanical forces can regulate extracellular matrix homeostasis
through its effects on collagen and matrix degrading enzymes
produced by fibroblasts. Thus the skin is stimulated to create
new collagen that will improve skin tone and texture and remove
some fine lines.
Pores are unblocked which in turn relieves acne and allows other
treatments to penetrate more deeply. The technique is very
gentle, there is no significant down-time. The treatment has to
be repeated a number of times however in order to achieve
significant benefit.
Most patients notice improvement
within two to three treatments. This treatment augments many other topical agents.
Patients can be reassured that
no Aluminium crystals
are used. Microdermabrasion with Aluminium crystals has been
reported to have the potential for side effects.
Our staff can recommend a
package to suit you.
Dr Darius J. Karimipour, MD says
in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology 2006.
"Although microdermabrasion is a
very safe
procedure, complications related to the corundum
may occur. Ocular complications, including eye
irritation and adherence of crystals to the cornea,
have been reported. Aluminum oxide dust has also
been associated with pulmonary fibrosis.
Aluminum exposure has also been implicated in
the pathophysiology of Alzheimer’s disease."
