| Aldara works by making the immune system
effectively attack and remove abnormal and cancerous cells.
The effect in each person and each individual lesion is as
variable as the moods of a teenager.
Because of this variability the application rate must be
varied to avoid particularly an over response. An over response
can cause unwanted change of colour in the skin after healing
and rarely a flu like illness.
It is recommended that you record when you have applied the
Aldara so that your Doctor can more accurately vary your
treatment plan if necessary.
To treat superficial BCC, Aldara Cream is usually used once a day,
between 2 and 5 days a week (usually 3) your doctor will
recommend a starting frequency to you.
Aldara Cream is usually left on the skin for about 8 hours.
After the 8 hours have passed, the treated area may be washed.
Treatment should continue for a full 6 weeks even if the
superficial BCC
appears to be gone, unless you are told otherwise by your
treating doctor.
How to Apply Aldara Cream
- Aldara Cream should be applied just before your bedtime
- Wash the area to be treated with mild soap and water.
Allow the area to dry
- Apply a thin layer of Aldara Cream only to the
affected area or areas to be treated. Do not use more Aldara
Cream than is needed to cover the treatment area
- Do not get Aldara Cream in your eyes. If you get Aldara
Cream in your mouth or in your eyes, rinse well with water
right away
- Covering the cream with an airtight bandage will make it
work twice as much as uncovered. This is a problem if the
aldara is causing a rapid reaction. Try and start without
covering.
When to have a break of one week when no Aldara is applied.
- If the redness more than doubles
- If the size of the lesions more than doubles
- If any systemic symptoms occur like a Flu feeling.
Contact the doctor if you are concerned.
